Raymond Savignac was one of the most successful and influential poster designers of the post-war period and the inventor of the "visual gag" concept of advertising. He was commissioned by many of France's most popular brands and in many cases (such as Bic), continued working with these companies for years. Within his design arsenal Savignac had a gallery of characters, such as a chef for food posters and a rooster (the French national emblem) for France. For a French food festival abroad he might well combine both, such as here. This is likely a study or an early idea for the poster in lot 127.
